Top 3 Mac Apps to increase your productivity
In this article, I am describing the essential apps which I installed when I was setting up my new MacBook. I found these apps to enhance my productivity and also solve some of the missing features in macOS.
iTerm2
The default terminal app of macOS, specifically the 12.2 version, is not suitable if you are going to use CLI extensively. For example, the Split Panes feature is very limited in its functionality. The best free alternative is the iTerm2 app which has the following salient features:
- Split Panes
- Toolbelt (Notes, Command History, etc)
- Notification Center support
- Auto-complete
And there are a lot more features that you can find on the official website of iTerm2.
Rectangle
The one thing that I missed the most when I moved from Windows to macOS is windows snapping. It is extremely useful when I want to look up something in Pytorch documentation while I am building my neural network model in VSCode/Terminal side-by-side. The inbuilt Windows snapping feature is great and it has a couple of nice keyboard shortcuts. But, the inbuilt snapping feature in macOS is not flexible and there are no default key shortcuts. So, I found an impressive free, open-source snapping tool called Rectangle. After installing it on my Macbook, I can snap windows as I do on Windows!
Meeter
I like the menu bar on Mac and I am not a big fan of widgets in the Notification Center. I wish there is a way to include an icon for the default calendar app on the menu bar. It would be nice to know the upcoming meetings at a glance and join the meetings quickly when you are in the middle of some other task. After googling, I found an app called Meeter which provides the above feature. I find it very handy. I love its cool feature of displaying the countdown for the next meeting on the menu bar itself. One-click to join the meeting. Minimalistic design!
